After 45 days of winter break, the Wolesi Jirga or the lower house of parliament’ sixth constitutional year has inaugurated by President Ashraf Ghani.

Speaking at the opening of parliament, President Ghani emphasized on reforming electoral commissions and holding the parliamentary election and provincial councils.

Ghani urged the parliament representatives to take a decision about the decree he has issued for electoral reforms.

“Our commitments in electoral reforms and holding election remain in force and I demand the Parliament members to cooperate in achieving these goals,” said President Ghani.

In the meantime, Chairman of the Wolesi Jirga considered the current situation of Afghanistan alarming and voiced his concerns.

“The fate of Parliamentary election and provincial council are shrouded in mystery and the National Unity Government has failed in commitments according to its agreement,” said Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, Chairman of Wolesi Jirga.

This comes as last year the five year work of parliament had officially ended but currently the House of Representatives are still on the job based on Ghani’s decree.

There was a lot of difference and stresses between Parliament and the National Unity Government (NUG) in the fifth year or season of Parliament work, however Ghani has emphasized on to resolve those problems.
