Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday promoted army’s special operations division to corps level and introduced Bismillah Waziri as commander of the new corps.

The promotion came during a ceremony held in Kabul, attended by the President and top Afghan and foreign military officials.

“The enemies’ first phase of the attack was failed this year,” Ghani told the forces. “Since last few weeks, due to your positive management, a fundamental change has been brought into the war situation.”

The President also warned the anti-government groups to surrender or will be forced to surrender.

“Our message to Afghanistan’s enemies is that either you surrender or the command units will make you surrender,” he said.

Meanwhile, Acting Defense Minister, Tariq Shah Bahrami, said the Afghan forces have made good progress in suppressing the insurgents.

“Your heroic operations have altered the status of the war, and the enemy hasn’t achieved its big and strategic goals it had set,” he said.

The promotion of division to corps level was according to four-year security plan, he added.

Praising the Afghan forces in fight against the insurgent groups, General Nicholson, the U.S. commander of international forces, warned the militants have two options either to surrender and stop killings of civilians or get eliminated.
