The ceremony was mostly attended by1, 400 guests including approximately 200 foreign dignitaries at the Arg, the presidential palace.
Ghani Ahmadzai called on the Taliban and other militants to join the country’s political process and lay down their weapons.
“We are tired of war. Our message is peace, but this doesn’t mean we are weak.” Ahmad Zai said.
As soon as Mr. Ghani took the oath of office, he issued a decree appointing Mr. Abdullah the chief executive of his government.
Abdullah Abdullah said the two leaders would work together “for a better future with trust and honesty”.
Afghanistan is to sign a long-delayed deal with the United States tomorrow which will allow some US troops stay in Afghanistan into the New Year.
Afghan people hope that Mr Ghani and Mr Abdullah can put aside their bitter election rivalry and work to improve life in a country that has suffered from war and poverty for decades.
