Governors call for holding Loya Jirga, Parliamentary Election

A number of governors in a gathering in Kabul on Thursday criticized the National Unity Government (NUG) and called for holding a Loya Jirga and the Parliamentary Election.

They claim that the lack of coordination between government agencies caused the insecurity increases in the country.

Kabul’s former governor, Abdul Jabar Taqwa says that the story of acting heads should be finished and we must get rid of agreements.

“Solving Afghanistan’s problem is convening a Loya Jirga. They should announce the Parliamentary election date,” Abdul Jabar Taqwa, Kabul’s former governor said.

Meanwhile, Urozgan’s former governor, Ahmad Omar Shirzad said that they will share their experiences with the government through writing and they hope the government uses their experiences.

“We will offer our ideas and our experience in the form of text to the government and we hope they use it particularly in part of governance,” Ahmad Omar Shirzad said.

Under Article 83 of the Constitution, the parliament term ends after the disclosure of election results on the 1st of Saratan (22 June) of the 5th legislative year and the new parliament commences work.

The Loya Jirga was a central part of the agreement that brought President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah together, intended to provide the venue for bringing changes to the Afghan Constitution that would restructure the government in a way that would decentralize authority and provide better conditions for power-sharing between key interest groups.

The association Afghanistan governors has 80 members of which 65 members of them are former governors and 15 members of them are the sitting governors.
