Gov’t failed on saving children being married: IHRC

Officials in Independent Human Rights Commission IHRC have stated that children marriages graph increased comparing to last year, since the Government of Afghanistan have failed to fulfill its political commitments saving underage children marriages in the country.

Meanwhile  officials in Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs despite of defending the children rights declaring different factors for increasing of the children marriages, poor awareness, poverty, insecurity, and irresponsibility of the parents.

In the report which was published indicates numbers of the children got marriage before they reach to their legal age.

7 up to 10 years old 6,6 percent

11 up to 15 years old 75 percent

16 up to 18 years old 36, 3 percent

Head of the Independent Human Rights Commission in Afghanistan Sima Samar said,” those who sell the girls and those who get couples together and recite their Nikah aren’t being sentenced, this indicates that Government of Afghanistan has failed to fulfill its political commitments for the residents of the country specially against defending the rights of children.”

Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Wasel Noor Muhmand said,” the exchanging of human beings tradition has been there, more over some other factors have also caused the following issue to be expanded within the society significantly  like poverty, irresponsibility of the parents, poor awareness, addiction to narcotics, family disputes.”

Officials in Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs demand the Ulema and Mullahs to tackle against the following issue within the society by giving right information to avoid children marriages.
