Unidentified gunmen cut off ears of a bride after killing her husband in Takhar province, said local officials.

Officials noted that the unidentified gunmen had taken all jewelries and dowry of the bride.

Local officials said that the murder took place in Ghabar Ghazi area of Talaqan and police have arrested 5 persons so far.

Takhar police commander, Abdul Hanan Qataqani said, “Police have begun their investigation that will hopefully lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of this event.”

The family of bride urged the Afghanistan government to severely punish the perpetrators of the murder.

Jamila, the 18 years old bride, said that the unidentified gunmen had tried to rape her.

Takhar is one of the volatile provinces where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating.

Earlier, the ministry of women affairs issued a report that indicated violence against women increased than the last year.

Research by the United Nations in Afghanistan indicates that police fail to investigate and the authorities fail to pursue prosecutions in the vast majority of incidents of violence against women, including since the law went into effect.
