Gunmen Kill Chief Executive’s Senior Adviser in Kabul

Rafigul Afghan, a senior adviser to Chief Executive, Abdullah Abdullah and a key member of Jamiat-e-Islami Afghanistan (JIA) was shot dead  last night along with his bodyguard in the vicinity of Kabul PD17, said Kabul Police today.

“The Chief Executive adviser was shot dead last night in Kotal-e-Khairkhana neighborhood of Kabul by some unknown armed men,” said Basir Mujahid, spokesman of Kabul Police Chief.

He further said that the assailants managed to escape from the area and police investigations is underway regarding the incident.

The Chief Executive Office also confirmed the news and noted through a statement that all related authorities are assigned to recognize the perpetrators for bringing them to justice.

Mr. Gul Afghan was formerly working as the country’s senate deputy speaker and was a prominent commander of Jamiat Party (JIA).

The Ministry of Interior has yet to provide more details regarding the murder of Mr. Gul Afghan.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the murder and Zabihullah Mujahid, the group’s spokesman said that Mr. Rafigul was killed in a Taliban hit and run attack.
