Heavy Snow Falls Created Severe Problems: CEO

The Afghanistan Chief Executive Officer, (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah during the Ministerial weekly council meeting confirmed that heavy snow falls have created severe problems for the residents in some provinces of Afghanistan, despite of measurements were taken to help and assist the recent heavy snow falls underestimated our efforts.

He said, “Necessary measurements were taken to help and assist but the recent heavy snow falls has underestimated our efforts in some provinces of Afghanistan.”

He went on and stated that the Secretary of state to deal with Natural disaster in the country was tasked to launch additional necessary measurements to help the vulnerable people in the coldest areas of the country.

“In general we will hear more from the state secretary dealing with Natural disaster Wais Ahmad Barmak and also all the related departments are tasked to coordinate for further assisting and helping of the people trapped in snow.”Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah said.

He also shared the concerns with the Ministers in the weekly council meeting said 9 million Afghans need humanitarian aids therefore we have demanded the International community to grant $550 million for Afghanistan.

State Minister for Disaster Management Wais Ahmad Barmak told to Ariana News we heard that 36 people lost their life due to recent heavy snow falls in Jawzjan province where later we found out that one person lost his life in the event.

Further he mentioned that in 2016 one million Afghans were displaced due to ongoing war.

Deadly avalanches are common in Afghanistan’s mountainous areas in winter, one in the remote far-north-east in 2012 left 145 people missing, presumed dead, amid heavy snow falls and many avalanches had killed hundreds in Panjshir province in 2015 as the Afghan Government had assigned several helicopters to send the relief aids to the vulnerable areas.
