High Office of Oversight Anti-corruption Warns Officials to Register Assets

The High Office of Oversight and Anti-corruption (HOOAC) has warned government officials to register their assets; otherwise they will be introduced to the general attorney.

Chairman of HOOAC says that a number of officials have not registered their assets and their administrative were also failed to fix assets outside Afghanistan.

“The officials should register their assets as soon as possible; otherwise they will be introduced to the general attorney,” said Sayeed Hussain Fakhri, chairman of HOOAC.

Previously, President has decided that the salaries and privileges of those officials who have not registered assets would be suspended.

HOOAC declares that the office has many problems in registering officials’ assets outside the country.

“We have not succeed to register the assets of government officials who are outside the country,” Fakhri  added.

However, the transparency watchdog considers the process of registering assets symbolic and emphasized that most of the government officials have transferred their assets to outside the country.

According to the 154th article of the constitution, all government officials are obliged to register their assets.

But a number of observing institution on fighting corruption are said to believe that there is no political will in the government to register assets and it paved the way for officials to embezzle.
