A huge fire has swept through a market in Kabul on Sunday morning.

Initial reports indicate that a wood market selling raw material for furniture caught fire in Quaye-Markaz area of Kabul around 11:00 am.

Heavy plume of black smoke seen for hours rising from the area.

This comes as about a month ago another huge fire destroyed hundreds of shops in a cloth market in Kabul.

Kabul which is the home to around five million people, has a poor fire safety reputation.

This is despite the fire department being upgraded with international help after the fall of the Taliban regime about 15 years ago.
