IEA welcomes UN Security Council resolution on Gaza ceasefire

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) welcomed on Tuesday the newly adopted UN Security Council resolution that demands an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it supports Hamas and Palestinians’ call for a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of occupying forces, humanitarian aid, the return of displaced people to their homes, the reconstruction of Gaza and an end to the siege.

The statement called on the UNSC to immediately ensure enforcement of a ceasefire in Gaza and end the ongoing crisis.

The IEA called on the UNSC and influential countries to take practical steps to prevent “genocide” against Palestinians and find a fair solution to the issue of Palestine.

The UN Security Council on Monday adopted Resolution 2728 demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan and called for the release of all hostages.

More than 32,200 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in the Israeli offensive since October 7 in Gaza. Over 74,500 others have been injured.
