Impunity To Offenders Damage Police Gains: MoI
The Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoI) officials strongly criticize government’s policy of exempting powerful offenders from punishment, believing impunity to criminals demoralizes the police forces.
In a press conference Tuesday in Kabul, the Police Chief of Kabul, General Zahir Zahir, noted the police had the ability to curb offenders but there was no support from the government to penalize the criminals.
He stated failure to punish criminals would badly damage the police achievements made over the past thirteen years.
General Zahir asked the newly-established national unity government to help the security agencies in bringing down the level of crime in the country.
“We have enough capability and courage to arrest offenders but we need strong support of the government,” General Zahir said.
Also present at the press conference, MoI spokesman Sideeq Siddequi praised the recent decree of President Ahmadzai aimed at bringing reforms in the national police.
