Residents of various provinces of the country complain of deteriorated security situation on highways of the provinces; citing security threats on rise in the past three months.

“There is no security in our ways. We have to pass through these dangerous ways because of our everyday business,” said Obaidullah, one of the passengers.

Transport shareholders and drivers also complaint over the current situation in highways and claim passengers are afraid of going by bus, especially at night.

“It is obvious that with the ongoing war and insecurity, people do not want to travel,” said Qudratullah, Responsible for urban transport.

Around 1,000 transport companies are currently operating across the country.

The deadly mishaps on the killer roads of Afghanistan every year account for more deaths than the war related incidents, thus making it quite literally a death trap for people.

According to a recent survey by US-based Global Peace Index (GPI), Afghanistan has earned the dubious distinction of being the most insecure place in the world, much to the chagrin of its citizens and tourists.

Previously, The Transportation Ministry has said that insecurity on highways has turned into a big challenge for transportation affairs in the country.
