Iran, Afghanistan Concern Joint Threats as Zarif Visits Kabul

Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says Afghanistan and his country are suffering from extremist movements due to interference of aliens.

Zarif arrived in Kabul on Sunday at the official invitation of his Afghan counterpart to meet with top Afghan officials including President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah.

Addressing a press conference in Kabul following a meeting with his Afghan counterpart Zarif said,” Iran and Afghanistan are situated in a dangerous region which suffers from extremist movements due to interference of aliens.”

On international relations, Iranian top diplomat appreciated Afghanistan’s support of Iran in international communities and promised that Iran will support Afghanistan in all fields as well.

In addition, he stressed on the expansion of economical and political relations between Kabul and Tehran.

“We can cooperate in various aspects including economic, political, human trafficking, drug trafficking and to target the financial sources of extremists,” Zarif added.

He also voiced his country’s readiness to launch cooperation in economic, transit, transport and infrastructure sectors.

At the same time, Afghan acting-foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani stressed the necessity for all countries around the world to cooperate in the international campaign against terrorism.

“All countries should jointly and coordinately fight against terrorism, Rabbani said, adding, “the Muslim countries have suffered the most from violent extremism.”

The visit comes at a time when the U.S. general increasingly accusing Iran and Russia for supporting the Taliban against the Kabul government, a claim always rejected by the two countries and  is being called as baseless accusations.
