Iran’s Interior Minister calls for undocumented Afghan refugees to return home
Iran’s minister of interior affairs, Eskandar Momeni, has once again called for the expulsion of undocumented Afghan refugees and said they should return to Afghanistan to help rebuild their country.
Momeni said Monday that based on the “Organization of Asylum Seekers” plan, refugees who do not have residency permits will be deported from Iran.
He stated that the current situation cannot be tolerated by Tehran.
Momeni said: “Afghan citizens in Iran are expected to go to their country and build their homeland.”
He also said that Iran will no longer accept asylum seekers.
After the Islamic Emirate regained control over Afghanistan, hundreds of thousands of Afghans fled to Iran and Pakistan.
Pakistan however, stepped up its deportation campaign late last year, and have since sent thousands of Afghan refugees home.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said late last year that an estimated three million Afghan refugees were living in Iran.

Pakistan PM again urges Afghanistan to act against militant groups
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday renewed his call for Afghanistan to take action against militant groups, saying Afghan territory should not be used to launch attacks against Pakistan.
“Pakistan shares over 2,600-kilometre border with its neighbour and has repeatedly urged the Afghan authorities to act against terrorist organisations and prevent Afghan territory from being used against Pakistan,” Sharif said speaking at an event in Balochistan province. “However, the Afghan interim government has failed to take effective action against these groups.”
Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan of failing to curb the activities of militant groups that Islamabad says carry out attacks inside Pakistan. The Islamic Emirate has consistently rejected the allegations, insisting that Afghan territory is not used against any country and calling on Pakistan to address its own security challenges internally.
