The special forces of the National Directorate of Security have arrested a recruiter of ISIS Khurasan (ISIS-K) in Kabul City.

The Afghan intelligence on Saturday in a statement said that the individual identified as Abu Obaidullah Mutawakil has been during a special operation in Kabul’s Police District 5.

The statement further added that Mutawakil – who used to be a lecturer in a university and a prayer leader in Sheikh Mohammadiha Mosque – has been arrested on charges of recruiting fighters for ISIS-K.

The statement noted that the individual has secretly recruited hundreds of educated youths for ISIS-K in eastern Nangarhar province, adding that 16 students of Mutawakil have also been arrested from different parts of Kabul City.

The detainees have confessed that they were encouraged and recruited in ISIS-K ranks by Mutawakil, the statement said.

According to the statement, Mutawakil’s second son named as Ahmadullah and his nephew Asadullah also known as Abdul Ghafoor had joined ISIS-K this year. Asadullah blew himself up in an attack in Kabul City two months ago.
