Islamic Development Bank commits $1.1 million for health services in Bamyan

The Islamic Development Bank has committed $1.1 million to enhance maternal and childcare health services in Bamyan province of Afghanistan, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Thursday.

“The provision of high-quality maternal and childcare health services to women and children is vital to strengthen health service delivery and reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths in Afghanistan,” Paata Chikvaidze, Coordinator RMNCAH & GER programmes WHO Afghanistan said.

Luo Dapeng, WHO representative in Afghanistan, said: “We are grateful to donors and partners that we can deliver life-saving health services to those who need them the most.”

WHO has estimated that 24 Afghan women die every day in childbirth or pregnancy.
