Italy PM Renzi Pays Surprise visit to Afghanistan

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi paid a surprise visit on Monday to a counter where his troops serving in and toured their base in Herat with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

Both Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Italian PM Metteo Renzi paid respects to 54 Italian soldiers who have lost their life combating Terrorism in Afghanistan, under NATO missions.

Renzi ‘s trip goal was to celebrate the republic Day of their country with his troops in Herat Province.

NATO’s 13-year combat mission in Afghanistan officially ended last December, but the alliance keeps a contingent there mainly to train Afghan security forces, including around 700 Italian troops.
