Jamiat Party Rejects Dismissal of Ousted Samangan Governor

Jamiat-e-Islami Afghannistan rejected the dismissal of Abdulkarim Khudam, ousted governor of Samangan province by president Ghani and described the dismissal as “Unjustifiable and Unilateral” in a statement issued today.

“Jamiat-e-Islami Afghanistan which is a main constituent of the National Unity Government (NUG) sees dismissal order of Samangan’s governor as unjustifiable, another step toward increasing tensions in the country, unilateral and in opposition to the nature of NUG’s agreement”, the statement reads.

It further noted that the party confirming the stance of Samangan’s people and Turkman elders rejects Khudam’s dismissal order.

The already confronting party to the NUG also called on political parties, Ulema Council, Civil Society and International Community to prevent what it describe as “Crisis Provoking” measures of the presidential palace known as Arg.

Mr. Khudam was among five governors who were recently ousted or changed by president Ghani’s order but defied the president’s order and said that he will continue in his post until the final decision of Jamiat leadership.

Abdulkarim Khudam is the second governor after Atta Mohammad Noor and third local official who rejects president Ghani’s order regarding his dismissal.

Doctor Zia, the deputy of Mr. Khudam had also previously defied his dismissal and still working in his local post as Samangan’s deputy governor.
