Japan Contributes $13.1m for Afghan Electoral Institutions
“It is a pleasure that Japan is playing its role for Afghanistan’s election,” said Mitsuji Suzuka, the Japan ambassador to Afghanistan at the event.
Tadamichi Yamamoto, head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), emphasized that Afghan parliamentary and district council elections must be held on time.
He added that the contribution by the people of Japan will assist Afghanistan to improve its electoral process through the provisions of the best available technical assistance, advise and financial and procurement support to Afghan electoral institutions.
Meanwhile, Afghan officials vowed that they are committed to organize a transparent election.
“I promise that we will organize the future elections transparently and we will not allow any type of electoral fraud,” said Abdul Badi Sayyad, the head of Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission (IEC). “The commission will fully keep its independence.”
