Afghan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Salahuddin Rabbani opened the Second meeting of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) in Kabul on Monday.

Rabbani calling on all Taliban groups to join the peace process, said,” On behalf of the people and government of Afghanistan, I take this opportunity and call on all Taliban groups to accept our call for peace through dialogue, and to come to the table for talks so that we can resolve all differences politically and ensure the rightful and just desire of the Afghan people for lasting peace, strongly supported by members of this Quadrilateral Coordination Group”.

He added that the Afghan government is optimistic about the will of Pakistan to explore options of use of all means necessary in dealing with those groups who would refuse to lay down arms and join the reconciliation process.

Afghan government believe that Taliban refusal to peace negotiation will further ‘isolate’ the group in ‘the eyes of the Afghan people’.

He touched the role of the United States and China, said,” the government and people of Afghanistan are confident that with the support of the United States and China as two vital members of the Group, we will be able to launch an effective peace process”.

Mr. Rabbani says the people and government of Afghanistan are prepared to enter peace talks with good faith in which the Constitution of Afghanistan is respected and the human rights of Afghan women and girls are observed.

The first round of a four-way peace talks meeting was held in Islamabad last Monday to find a roadmap to resume the stalled peace talks between the government of Afghanistan and the Taliban group.
