Karzai Meets with Russian Foreign Minister in Moscow

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Tuesday.

Currently, Karzai is in Russia for the fifth Moscow Conference on International Security.

In his meeting with Lavrov, he discussed Afghanistan’s situation and thanked Moscow’s efforts in encouraging the Taliban to join peace talks with the Afghan government.

Speaking at the meeting, Karzai correlated peace and stability in Afghanistan with Russia and said,” our peace and stability has consequence on the same nature for you and our instability and lack of prosperity has the same for you”.

So, he urged Russia to continue its efforts for bringing stability to Afghanistan by promoting dialogue, peace, regional cooperation and coordination “on Afghanistan and in Afghanistan”.

Afghan politician also wished that the same “environment of cooperation and confidence” must be restored between Moscow and Washington as it was during the past 15 years.

Meanwhile in return Russian Foreign Minister, stated that his country sincerely wants Afghanistan to end the period of instability in its history.

“We promote support for the national dialogue and are ready to use any format in order to provide support for external players to this process,” speaking at the meeting, Lavrov said.

Abdul Qayoum Kochi, Afghanistan’s ambassador to Moscow, Rangin Dadfar Spenta and Zarar Ahmad Osmani, former foreign ministers, Sadiq Mudabber and Abdul Karim Khuram, former chiefs of administrative affairs were also present at the meeting.
