Land grabbing by powerful, government authorities in Afghanistan

More than thousands acres of land that are belonging to the Afghan teachers have been grabbed by the powerful and government authorities.
A list that was sent to Ariananews said that one of the parliament members has grabbed 500 acres of land.
The list also indicates that the ministry of defense and some provincial authorities of Logar and Khost provinces are among the land grabbers.
However, governor of Logar and the ministry of education in Khost denied these reports and said to consider them incorrect.
Governor of Logar, Niaz Muhammad Amir said, “From the day that Logar has promoted from district to province, no one has grabbed lands”
Spokesman of the defense ministry, Genral Zahir Azimi said, “In relation to the report of ministry of education alleged ministry of defense has grabbed lands we should say that an assessment should be made whether these claims are true or not.”
Land laws are complex in Afghanistan and have several origins: religious (Shari’a), tribal or community customary law basis, a civil code drafted in the 1970s, and a series of statutory laws in the form of Presidentially-passed decrees and acts passed by Parliament. Some revisions have been made to national (Statutory) land laws since 2001, but without affecting the substance and therefore do not differ significantly from when they were first introduced in the 1960s and 1970s.
