“Martyrs Week” commemorated by Kabul residents

Ahmad Masoud and a number of Afghan officials and Kabul residents on Wednesday marked Hafta-e-Shaheed or Martyrs week and with donating blood commemorate the death of Afghan national hero Ahmad Shah Masoud and pay tribute to all those who had lost their lives in the war against the 1979-89 military invasion of the former Soviet Union and the Taliban onslaught from 1994 till its collapse in late 2001.

Son of Ahmad Shah Masoud, Ahmad Masoud urged all Afghans to try to institutionalize the culture of donating blood and support their security forces.

“The National Hero and our elders sacrificed their bloods in the trenches and now we are donating our bloods to those who defend our country. Other Afghans should also template this action,” Ahmad Masoud, son of Ahmad Shah Masoud said.

Meanwhile, a number of Kabul residents who came to blood donating centers say “Donating blood to our security forces in the current situation is an essential need.”

“We want to donate our bloods to those who fight for the sake of Afghanistan,” Nasir Ahmad, a Kabul inhabitant said.

“The spirits of the Afghanistan’s National Hero and others in the leadership who lost their lives to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity would become joyful, if we and the government willing to absolutely work for the nation’s unison and welfare.”َ Amin said.

Day of Martyrs Week is commemorated every year to pay homage to all martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Afghanistan.

In May 2012, the country’s National Assembly accepted September 9th or 8th, (variable per Solar Hijri calendar) as a national holiday to honor the National Hero Ahmad Shah Massoud and those who died fighting for the country.”
