Former NDS official Massoud Andarabi has been appointed as acting interior minister, a government source confirmed to Ariana News Monday.

Andarabi previously served as acting head and deputy of the National Directorate of Security.

His appointment comes after Amrullah Saleh resigned as acting interior minister last month.

Salehi served in the position for 27 days and stepped down after being picked by President Ghani in his ticket as his First Vice President for July presidential elections.

Following Saleh’s resignation, President Ghani had asked his National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib to take charge of the Interior Ministry until new minister being introduced.

The appointment of Andarabi also comes a week after three top interior ministry officials have been removed from their posts including first deputy interior minister Janan Barakzai, deputy interior minister for security affairs Akhtar Ibrahimi and director of counter-terrorism department Najib Aman. They were replaced with fresh faces.
