Mass Killings of Civilians in Sar-e-Pul A Crime Against Humanity: AIHRC
Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) says mass killings of civilians by the Taliban in northern Sar-e-Pul province is a crime against humanity.
The Taliban on Saturday morning has shot and killed as many as 40 civilians including children and women, following a coordinated attack in Mirza Olang area of Sayad district of the province.
“The incidents that happen daily involving the Taliban are crimes against humanity,” said Latifa Sultani, an official of AIHRC.
The Kabul Ulema Council said that massacre of civilians is contrary to religious and Islamic principles.
The Interior Ministry, however said that clearance operation is to be launched in Mirza Olang area of the district.
“We are working a new plan of operation to retake the Sayad district. Soon clearance operation would be conducted in Mirza Olang,” the Interior Ministry Acting spokesman, Najib Danish said.
It comes as the Taliban has rejected any involvement in the incident. The group claimed killing Afghan military in Mirza Olang.
