Massoud Foundation urges NUG to investigate assassination of National Hero
No clue has been given on the assassination of the legendary military commander Ahmad Shah Massoud during the last 14 years.
The Massoud Foundation established in 2003 accuses the government for negligence to investigate the death of Ahmad Shah Massoud, who was assassinated at the instigation of al-Qaeda, in a suicide bombing on septermber 9, 2001, asking the National Unity Government leaders to open a special commission to investigate the assassination case of Massoud.
Ahmad Wali Massoud the younger brother of Massoud and the CEO of the Massoud Foundation said,” unfortunately the government has kept silence on the martyr case of Ahmad Shah Massoud and I am asking the Afghan government to open a commission to investigate the assassination case of Ahmad Shah Massoud in Afghanistan”.
Ahmad Shah Massoud was a military leader who fought against the Soviet occupation between 1979 and 1989 and was named as the “Lion of Panjshir” among his followers for his role against the occupation. Massoud was posthumously named “National Hero of Afghanistan” and the date of his death, September 9, is observed as a national holiday, but his death case was not investigated by any governmental officials during the last 14 years.
The head of Massoud Foundation also urged Massoud’s fans to avoid actions which make public harassment during the Shaheed or Maryter’s Week.
“The bitter experience of the recent years shows that some people celebrates the day, but annoy people in the streets, I ask them to celebrate, but do not disturb and cause annoyance,” Massoud urged.
A governmental commission has also been formed to celebrate the Martyrs Week in Kabul.
