MCIT detects potential cyber-attack on gov.af websites

The ministry of communication and information technology (MCIT) has rejected the “Threat Connect” a Virginia-based cybersecurity firm that its researchers found a corrupted JavaScript file that was used to host content on “gov.af” websites.
Spokesman of the ministry of communication and information technology, Nasrat Rahimi said that hackers infect a large number of victims, and then follow up with the most “promising” hits to extract data, but the Afghan government inactivated and cleaned up the Java File.
U.S. cybersecurity researchers reported about malicious software likely linked to China was used to infect visitors to a wide range of official Afghan government websites.
According to Reuters, Rich Barger, chief intelligence officer of “Threat Connect” said that The malware was found on numerous Afghan government websites, including the ministries of justice, foreign affairs, education, commerce and industry, finance and women’s affairs, and the Afghan embassy in Canberra, Australia, which was formerly known as Cyber Squared.
The ministry of communication and information technology is said to consider corrupted JavaScript file a political issue between China and America.
