Mine Awareness Day highlights tragic consequences of war
The United Nations said Tuesday, on International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, that explosive materials left over from war kill or injure one person every hour around the world.
The UN, which marks mine awareness day annually on April 4, said these remnants of war continue to cause deaths and injuries, especially in situations of armed conflict.
The UN also stated that a large percentage of victims are children.
On Tuesday, Save the Children Organization said in a report that in Afghanistan, nearly 60 people, mostly children, are victims of landmines every month.
This organization said Afghanistan was one of the most polluted countries with mines.
According to UNAMA, demining organizations have cleared more than 30,100 square kilometers of land in recent years, but according to this organization, there is still a lot of work to be done in this field.
