MoF Presents Draft of Next Year’s Budget  to Senate House

Finance Minister, Ekilil Hakimi on Monday presented the draft of  national budget for fiscal year 1397 to Meshrago Jirga (Senate House) of the parliament for approval.

The  budget was approved by the cabinet on Sunday, after being reviewed by the budget committee in collaboration with government organizations.

Minister Hakimi said that in next year’s budget priority given to security, education, infrastructure and agriculture sectors.  

The total outlay of the 1397 budget is over  357 billion Afghanis, with 267 billion Afghanis to ordinary budget and 90.5 billion Afghanis to development budget. 60 percent of the budget would be funded by the donor countries and the remaining 40 percent will be generated from domestic revenues

“This budget has been carefully reviewed to resolve the country’s some of the issues, and Afghanistan still needs serious support of the international community,”  said Farooq Wardag, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs.

Based on the constitution, the draft of the national budget is being sent to Meshrano Jirga in first step and then to Wolesi Jirga of parliament after being approved in the cabinet.  The parliament can either approve or send it back to the government.
