The Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization is expanding its military activity in Afghanistan, Russian President Envoy to Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov has said on Friday.

Russian envoy estimates that ISIS has 10,000 loyalists in Afghanistan.

“The IS activity has grown significantly in Afghanistan since summer 2014,” Kabulov quoted by TASS news agency saying, “The group numerical strength is estimated at 10,000 people.”

“The figure can continue growing, as the IS slogans and high financing are attractive to Afghan youth,” he further added.

An Afghan official rejected the claim of Russian envoy about the growth of IS fighters in Afghanistan.

“We reject the claim that Daesh (the Arabic acronym for IS) is growing in Afghanistan, Daesh is about to fall in Afghanistan,” Ministry of Interior Spokesman, Sediq Sediqi said in an interview with Ariana News.

Kabulov believe that Taliban is a big threat in the upcoming year for the Afghan security forces and expects huge military operations by the group in the coming spring.
