MoI Supply Official Arrested Over $80,000 Bribe Suggestion
An official from the Afghan Ministry of Interior (MoI) was detained for suggesting $80,000 as bribe for a prosecutor, the country’s Attorney General Office (AGO) announced on Tuesday.
The AGO official said, the Anti-Corruption Justice Center was investigating a corruption case of 261 million Afghani in the Afghan police when an official who was in charge of the MoI supply management department has suggested him a bribe to finalize the case in the favor.
The prosecutor has informed the investigative and detective department in the Anti-Corruption Justice Center and they have trapped him red-handed.
“After a bribe suggestion, our committed prosecutor has involved detective organs and the accused was arrested,” said AGO spokesman Jamshid Rasuli.
A number of experts criticize government’s campaign against corruption saying the anti-corruption justice center does not have the power to assess big graft cases.
“This is not the first case and will not be the last. This center will continue its tasks and we will be witnessed more cases,” Rasuli added.
This comes as recently the Anti-Corruption Justice Center has sent three corruption cases including an embezzlement case from a high-ranking official of police to the court for making a decision.
