MPs confirms Central Bank governor, member of Supreme Court

Afghanistan Wolesi Jirga- The lower house of Parliament approved Khalillah Sediq’s as the governor of Central Bank of Afghanistan – Da Afghanistan Bank and Sayed Yousuf Halim as member of the Supreme Court but The first-ever female nominee for the supreme court in Afghanistan has failed to garner enough votes of approval from the parliament.

Sediq received 100 confidence votes and 75 votes of disapproval from 193 lawmakers present during Wednesday’s session of the parliament.

Each candidate was supposed to receive 93 votes of confidence in a bid to be confirmed by the Lower House by obtaining 50+1 percent of the total votes.

Khalillah Sediqi, nominee for governor of Central Bank of Afghanistan said, “I will try to avoid any banking crisis in the country and will not let any bank to put the public’s money at risk.”

Yousuf Halim received 103 votes and approved as the member of the Supreme Court.

Anisa Rasoli received 88 votes, nine short of the 97 needed for her nomination to pass. Zahir Qadir, the deputy parliament speaker who was chairing the session, asked President Ashraf Ghani to bring forth another nominee.

It should be seen that if President Ghani to announce another lady for the position of Supreme Court or not.
