Members at the lower house of the parliament (Wolesi Jirga) have summoned the Deputy Minister of commerce and industry, head departments of oil, Gas and norm standard on Saturday to provide more details over increasing of the fuel-Gas prices in the markets amid winter season comes in.

Law makers have said people cannot afford to purchase fuel and Gas because the prices are increasing on daily basis.

Member of Parliament Farida Hameed said, “Fuel-Gas prices are increasing when the winter season comes, people cannot afford it, and Government should adopt necessary measurements for removing the barrier.”

“ It’s said that Mafia is behind the deal on increasing of fuel and Gas prices, Government should launch necessary efforts to decrease the prices of Gas- fuel in the markets,” MP Abdullah Mohammadi said.

Meanwhile Officials in Ministry of commerce and industry said based on the law of free markets Afghan Government cannot interfere in Markets, the prices of fuel and Gas is determined by the private sectors.

Deputy Minister of commerce and industry Abdul Bari Rahmani said, “Government does not have the right to interfere in markets, private sector is importing the fuel – Gas in Afghanistan and they increase the fuel-Gas prices as their wish.”

“Due to having no law the Government cannot control the prices in the markets this caused the issue to be swollen up in.” Chief Executive Officer at Afghanistan fuel and liquid Gas enterprise Abdul Walid Tamim said.

However head of the Norm and standard Bureau Naqibullah Faiq urged that we have refused to let 30 thousand tons of none quality fuel to enter into Afghanistan since last year.

He said, “We have not allowed 30 thousand of none quality fuel to enter in the markets, efforts are underway to let the quality fuel to be imported in Afghanistan.”

Members at the lower house of the parliament believed that having no clear policy of the Government for fuel-Gas paved the ways for the Afghan traders to increase the prices of fuel-Gas anytime as they wish so.
