President Ghani’s disloyalty to implement the distribution process of the National Electronic ID Cards suspended European Union’s funding.

European Union announced the suspension of funds for the National Electronic Identity Card following a consistent delay in the launch of a much awaited process.

A number of Afghan lawmakers criticizing the government questioning why President Ghani has delayed the process despite the Population Registration Act has already been approved and published in the official gazette.

“The main culprit is the President, because the law was passed by the Parliament and the President approved it and it was published in the official gazette, then what was the problem to delay this process and we lost financial funding for this project. This is an anguish with the people of Afghanistan, it reveals the President’s signature is invalidate,” Abdul Hafeez Mansoor a member of the Afghan parliament said.

At the same time another lawmaker also criticize delays in the process, but saying the word ‘Afghan’ has brought these challenges therefore the government should suggest reforms in the Population Registration Act.

“Both President Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah are guilty, because they failed to launch this national process, but a number of people asking to include the word ‘Afghan’ in the electronic National ID Cards, at the same time other people are asking to include their identity too which needs to be considered; therefore, the government should suggest reforms in the law to be accepted by all the people,” Abdul Qader Zazi another member of the House said.

Earlier, a EU representative warned to cut funding for this process if the government continue to delay the process and recently an official in the electronic National Identity Card Office confirmed to Ariana News that two sources which are the European Union and the U.S. have completely cut their funding to this process and the process has faced to a new crisis.
