The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) has signed the agreement of 122 public projects with the National Rural Development Council.

Minister of Rural Rehabilitation says that more than 254 thousand people will need for the implementation of these projects.

“These projects fund by the Asian Bank and MRRD implements these projects in Balkh, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Ghor, Parwan, Bamyan, Takhar, Paktiya, Faryab and Jawzjan provinces,” Nasir Ahmad Durani, minister of MRRD said.

Durani noted that projects include the construction of roads, water channels and preparing of the drinking water.

In the meantime, a number of the provincial council officials said that rural people need more programs to be implemented in their areas.

“Projects have been implemented in flood-hit areas that saved the lives of people and we need more projects for various sectors,” Muhammad Akbar, Head of Nangarhar’s development council said.

The central government should devolve greater fiscal and political authority to the provinces, particularly through provincial development plans, to enable local authorities to implement development projects effectively and thus reduce public frustration and resentment against the government and its international partners.
