Multimillion Dollar Road Project Launched in North of Afghanistan

Afghan government on Saturday launched construction of a major road in northern Badakhshan province.

The Baharak-Ishkashim transit road covers 108 kilometers and will connect Afghanistan with Tajikistan and China.

“The purpose behind constructing this road is to get connected with China and Tajikistan,” said Minister of Public Work, Mahmood Baligh.

During the inauguration ceremony of the project in the province, Chief Abdullah Abdullah said the security of Badakhshan is important for the government.

“The Chief of Army staff is presenting his plan to the leaders of the government in Security Council and we are determined to maintain security of Badakhshan,” Abdullah said.

According to Public Work Minister, the government has plan to build 400 kilometer road in total and 600 meter bridge in Badakhshan this year that will cost up to $98 million.
