National Assembly welcomes creation of commission on reviewing TUTAP project
President Ashraf Ghani has visited the board leadership and members of the National Assembly in a consultative meeting on Sunday.
President Ghani has said that the Afghanistan cabinet decided over the 500 KW power transmission three years ago and Salang route was selected for the TUTAP project.
The project was primarily expected to be passed through Bamyan, but in 2013, former government’s cabinet approved the project through Salang.
“If we see all cabinet’s decisions, the promised power for Bamyan was not more than 5 Megawatt power, but we will give Bamyan 300 Megawatt power according to the new draft,” President Ashraf Ghani said.
According to the previous plan, Bamyan would have power in the year 2022, but now simultaneously with the transmission of power through Salang route , Bamyan will also benefit the power.
President Ghani has assigned a committee consists of lawmakers, political and civil activists to review TUTAP project and present the results to the people and government of Afghanistan so the decision to be then finalized.
The National Assembly Board Leadership and its members have welcomed the creation of commission on evaluating the TUTAP project and called for justice and equitable development according to the constitution.
The Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TUTAP) power project will import 500kv of electricity from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to Pakistan through Afghanistan.
Previously, the ministry of water and energy said that passing TUTAP project through Bamyan is impossible due to economic problems.
To solve Bamyan power problem, minister of water and energy has said that a power line is expected to be extended through Parwan to Bamyan which has the capacity of 300Mgw power.
