NATO reiterates support to NUG: Gen. Campbell

The four-star General, US top Commander in Afghanistan, Gen. John Campbell on Sunday assured that NATO and the Resolute Support (RS) mission continues support from National Unity Government (NUG) and would not support a parallel government to the NUG.

Gen. Campbell declared that the International Community will continue to cooperate with Afghanistan for many years and the armed Taliban group should not think that it would abandon the Afghan government.

“NATO remains committed to supporting the NUG and the Afghan people in their efforts to build a stable, sovereign, democratic and united country and would not support parallel governments,” said Gen. John Campbell, commander of the Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan.

Campbell stressed on NATO’s long-term presence in Afghanistan, saying “All Afghans must know that NATO will continue its presence in Afghanistan for many years.”

He also called on Kabul and Islamabad for a joint combat against the enemy; adding instead of leaving Afghanistan, Afghan people should join the ranks of security forces for a bright future.

The US. Top commander further noted that the Peace Process needs time but at the end a political solution must be find to end war in Afghanistan.

Resolute Support is a NATO-led training, advisory, assistance, and counter-terror mission consisting of 12,500 soldiers in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, which began on January 1, 2015.
