NDS arrests Taliban leaders in Helmand

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) – Afghanistan’s Intelligence Agency has arrested 2 Taliban leaders in Southern Helmand province of Afghanistan.

According to a statement released by the Afghan Spy Agency on Thursday, a key local Taliban leader who was involved in killing of 30 Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces has been arrested in Helmand.

NDS said, the Taliban leader has been identified as Sharafuddin.

According to the statement, another key Taliban commander indentified as Shaista was arrested during a direct encounter with the intelligence operatives in Garamser district.

Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report yet.

Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan, where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating.
