NDS Frees Kidnapped Student from Taliban in Nangarhar

Afghan spy agency says it has freed a student of a private university in eastern Nangarhar province who was kidnapped by the Taliban for ransom.

The Afghan Intelligence operatives freed the student named Khairullah from the Taliban  in Khewa district of the province,  the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement.

Khairullah was abducted from Kabul-Jalalabad highway and the insurgent demanded $800,000 as ransom and his family was unable to pay the ransom, the statement added.

Nangarhar is one of the restive provinces of Afghanistan where the Taliban and Islamic State militants are actively operating in its number of remote districts.

The insurgents often target civilians as shelters against Afghan security forces in the province and some cases seen kidnapping the traders for ransom.
