New members of HPC kick off work on developing Peace process

With approaching to the time of direct Peace Talks between the Afghan government and the armed Taliban group, President Ghani introduced the new members of the High Peace Council (HPC) and the council start work on a development plan for Afghanistan’s Peace process on Tuesday.

While introducing the new members of HPC, President said that peace is not a national trend in Afghanistan; it is a regional and international process.

“Peace is one of the main priorities of the National Unity Government (NUG). We will make the world to know that Afghanistan’s demand is peace,” said President Ashraf Ghani.

In the meantime, the Executive Officer, Abdullah Abdullah noted that the Peace process’s management and ownership belong to the Afghans and other countries have just the right to make fields for realization of this program.

“The message of this council is the message of hope to the Afghan people. In addition to people’s support, Peace in Afghanistan also support by foreign. Those who currently are in the trenches of war are the heroes of peace,” said Executive Officer, Abdullah Abdullah.

Chief of the HPC, Sayed Ahmad Gilani said, “I wish the current system of the country can bring peace for the nation and provide development and improvement fields to the country.”

Deputy of HPC, Habiba Suhrabi has also added that the Peace process would be failed without supporting Afghan women.

The Afghanistan High Peace Council (HPC) is a body of the Afghanistan Peace and Reintegration Program, appointed by former President Hamid Karzai to negotiate with elements of the Taliban. The HPC was established on 5 September 2010.
