Afghanistan would not have a complete security system without the presence of women in police ranks, said Ministry of Interior (MoI).

Spokesman of MoI has declared that the traditional society has made women not be seen in police ranks.

“We would not gain targets in providing security without the participation of women. Afghan women can assist men in police affairs, but the main challenge is our traditional society which is a great barrier against the presence of Afghan women,” said Sidiq Sidiqi, spokesman of MoI.

In the meantime, a number of politicians called for strong presence of women in Afghanistan’s peace process and to be appointing in higher governmental positions.

“We can return peace back to country with the presence of women,” said Nadiya Saleh, first lady’s adviser on security and women affairs.

Parliament members are said to believe that women have a valuable role in bringing peace to Afghanistan; Urging the government to encourage women not only in police ranks but also in management tasks.

“According to the written 13-25, women’s presence in peace process is essential and the presence of women in security ranks means breaking the ‘traditional spell’,” said Fawziya Kofi, representative of Badakhshan in parliament.

Previously, a large number of institutions supported women’s presence in national police ranks, but now they want a public support from all across the country.
