The former chairman of Independent Election Commission (IEC), Yousuf Nuristani in his last interview with Ariananews has said that he is tired of working in the election commission and one day, he may resign.

However, spokesman of IEC says that the reason of Nuristani’s resignation was ending the election deadlock and paving the ways for holding the upcoming elections.

“Nuristani resigned because he knew that he will be dismissed but the resignation had no cost for him. As I know, the government promised him the position of an appointed senator or becoming ambassador in one of the European countries,” Fazel Ahmad Manawi, ex-chairman of IEC said.

Simultaneously, the National Unity Government stated that government does not have the authority to dismiss any members of election commissions and its members should voluntarily resign.

The Presidential Palace noted that with Nuristani’s resignation, ways opened for start of Selecting Committee’s work.

“According to the law, the government cannot dismiss the members of IEC,” said Sayed Zafar Hashemi, President’s deputy spokesman.

This comes as that the time will show if the members of election commission will resign or will manage the upcoming elections.
