All seven suspects charged with robbery and rape cases have been awarded death penalty by the appellate court of Kabul on Sunday.

The court verdict came Sunday afternoon in an open trial session of seven suspects accused of robbing and rapping four women of a family who were attacked last week while returning from a wedding in Paghman district of Kabul.

Following the pervious charges against these criminals, the court verdict also awarded imprisonment term of 15 to 20 years to each of the offenders.

However, the appellate court judge declared the verdict was not the final decision and the criminals had the right to file an appeal.

The trial session was attended by a number of civil society activists, rape and looting victims, media outlets and government officials.

Protests and rallies held in many provinces including capital Kabul against the most inhumane act and demanded harsh punishment for the culprits.
