Pakistan resumes laying fences; Afghanistan warns of reactions

Pakistan has resumed laying barbed wire at selected locations along the Afghan-Pak disputed border on Saturday after the Torkham border crossing was reopened on Friday evening, Pakistani Dawn newspaper reported on Sunday.

According to the report a Pakistani General has visited the border crossing and instructed the border guards to show courtesy to the people crossing over into Pakistan or Afghanistan but keep a strict vigil on the movement of suspect people.

Torkham border crossing was closed by Pakistan on Tuesday May,10 after Afghan Border Forces objected over the construction of fences by Pakistan along the disputed border.

The border crossing was reopened on Friday after the Afghan ambassador to Pakistan met with Pakistan Chief of Army Staff and discussed the issues.

Recently, an Afghan National Army (ANA) General based in eastern Nangarhar province, bordering Pakistan, warned Islamabad of serious reactions if it continues laying barbed wire along the Durand Line.
