Pentagon Seeks More Aggressive Role in Afghanistan

U.S. defense officials say the Pentagon is considering an expanded and more aggressive role in Afghanistan, one that would include the American military once again targeting both Taliban and Haqqani network fighters.

Both Pentagon and White House officials have been considering the expanded authority for several months as they have worked through a strategy review for Afghanistan. The new strategy will also focus heavily on the relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan and terror networks throughout the region, according to NBC News.

Spokesman of Afghan Ministry of Defense, Dawlat Waziri said, “During the Brussels summit, the U.S. and NATO forces announced to not join the war in Afghanistan. This is obvious that our forces are capable of advancing the war and the United States is here just for the advising and training.”

U.S. National Security Adviser, McMaster is supposed to review the Afghanistan-Pakistan relation and terrorist networks in all across the region.

Afghan political analyst, Sidiq Patman said, “U.S. may strengthen its presence in Afghanistan, but it should be based on a policy and the policy should ultimately lead to a lasting peace in Afghanistan.”

Another political analyst, Atiqullah Amar Khail said, “U.S. efforts and interventions would have no impact up to the next hundred years, if one or the two of involved parties do not come for negotiations and peace.”

The United States has a serious plan on Afghanistan and Pakistan relation; therefore US Senator MacCain in his visit with Sartaj Aziz said peace in Afghanistan will be impossible without the cooperation of Pakistan.

This comes as Afghan officials and people have always accused Pakistan of supporting and equipping terrorist groups.
