President Ghani has signed the retirement of 164 Afghan army generals putting Afghanistan new military officers inherent law to practice, he wrote on his official Tweeter account.

” Putting our new military officers inherent law to practice, I just signed the respectful retirement of 164 generals”, Ashraf Ghani tweeted earlier this morning.

The president also noted that “We want reforms to win the war and peace. We don’t want reforms just for the sake of reforms.”

The process of retiring Afghan army generals is likely a continued effort in bringing reforms within the military forces of Afghanistan as president Ghani  stated that ” this process will continue for our brighter future.”

As most of army generals and officers have maintained their relationships with political figures and parties, the government leaders have reportedly gained an agreement on retiring old Afghan generals.

However, some of these influential figures have recently criticized the approval of Afghanistan new military officers inherent law which lowers retirement of military officers.

Atta Mohammad Noor, the ousted Balkh governor and a leader of Jamiat-e-Islami party, had previously labeled the new military inherent law as an effort to weaken the rule of Mujahidin within the armed forces.
