President Ashraf Ghani in a press conference said on late Wednesday that reports of CIA torture at a detention center in Afghanistan violated all norms of human rights in the world.
President Ashraf Ghani demanded to know how many Afghans were among those subjected to painful and humiliating interrogations.
President Obama has also condemned the report and said that some of the tactics described in US Senate report on harsh CIA interrogations were “brutal,” “counterproductive,” and amounted to torture, but that releasing the information was an important step in the process of making sure that such a scenario is not ever repeated.
According to Reuters the US embassies in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Thailand are warning of the potential for anti-American protests and violence after Tuesday’s release of a Senate report outlining harsh interrogation techniques used by the CIA on terror suspects.
The US Senate Intelligence Committee released a 499-page executive summary Tuesday, which includes graphic details about sexual threats and other harsh interrogation techniques the CIA meted out to captured militants in the years after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.
