President Ghani considers China’s role valuable in relation between the two countries
President Ashraf Ghani on his 4 official days to China emphasized on Afghanistan’s problems, threats, aims and ability.
President Ghani met with his counterpart Xi Jinping and discussed expansion of bilateral cooperation in the spheres of economic, security, education and culture.
He said to consider the role of national unity government valuable in bringing peace to Afghanistan.
In the meantime, China has pledged USD 327mn in aid to Afghan government.
The United States also welcomed China’s growing role in trying to ensure Afghanistan’s stability on Thursday, saying a Beijing conference of foreign ministers on Afghan reconstruction this week shows its commitment to the region as Western troops pull out.
China, connected to Afghanistan by a narrow, almost impassable mountain corridor, has been preparing for more responsibility in Afghanistan after the bulk of U.S.-led troops pull out this year.
